With flooding in Belfast, close to our factory, many customers are now taking a look at our Snorkel Vents before purchasing. With our new display area in mid-construction, we will soon also be able to show customers our Flood Door in action. Our purpose built tank will be easily accessible, and show how easy it is for water to enter a home.

Flood Door / Snorkel Vent have been supplying flood protection products to residents in Belfast after severe flooding. Many are greatly distressed after having their pocessions destroyed. Flash floods can create havoc in a very short space of time. The best time to prepare for a Flood happening is before it happens. All our customers just wished they hadn’t bought one sooner.

Many new applications

The Snorkel Vent has been seeking to move into new territory, and we have found that our customers are using them for lots of new applications.

In as far away as Australia, customers are attaching the Snorkel Vents to their homes, and then raising the level of their driveway. If the vents/airbricks had just been covered all ventilation would have been removed from under the floorboards. If a little gap had been left, leaves would have collected and water would have flowed down in. However, by using a Snorkel Vent, water can not enter and there is no potential for sediment build-up.

Closer to home, they are being fitted out of sight in the render around buildings. Hidden out of sight but doing the the exact thing they are meant to: extending the height of vents just like a snorkel.

Snorkel Vent secures major contract

Snorkel Vent has recently supplied Hundreds of the Snorkel Vent products to a Scottish building project. As the Snorkel Vent is the only product of its kind on the market, it was specified by the architect working on the scheme.

The Snorkel Vent was used in the retrofitting of Tower Blocks to allow ventilation after road, pavement, and building alterations. If you would like to specify any of our products and would like more information, just email us and request further data.

January blast of cold

Its good to know sometimes that you don’t have to be outside all the time. The tests which the Flood Door and Snorkel Vent are subjected too, are being carried out in the Hydraulics laboratory at Queens University, Belfast. The facility is indoors and is being carried out by the experienced test technicians and research staff. With tests scheduled to be completed by end of January, hopefully there will be some more Photos to take a look at then.

Rivers Agency updates on-line flood maps

The Rivers Agency has recently updated there online flood maps which have outlined possible areas that could flood in future. It is suggested that there are 46,000 homes in Northern Ireland that are at risk from flooding. Over recent months there have been a number of serious flood incidents in Northern Ireland, and hopefully now, people will be more aware of the risks and be able to make informed decisions when flood-proofing their homes. Snorkel Vent and Flood Door tests get under way

Snorkel Vent and Flood Door products have commenced independent testing! The testing is being carried out by Queen’s University, Belfast, a leading university in Environmental and Coastal Engineering with their own hydrology lab. The three main areas of testing to be carried out are static, wave and current, simulating conditions present during a flooding event. The Snorkel Vent and Flood Door easily passed the current flow tests of 1 m/s as requirement by PAS 1188:part 1. Queen’s then went on to subject the products to their maximum current of 2 m/s with ZERO leakage!!

All testing is due to be completed in January.

Snorkel Vent helps inform Dublin’s East Wall community

Snorkel Vent and Flood Door products were on display in Dublin for the first time on Friday 18/11/11. An information day was held in the Sean O’Casey community centre to raise awareness of flood protection measures. Paul Hendy, Director of the Scottish Flood Forum, was aiming to inform residents of progress in Scotland and show what can be done with thoughtful planning. Snorkel Vent staff where on-hand during the day to advice residents of the range of products available to help flood proof their homes. The East Wall area of the docklands has been hit hard in the last month by flooding with numerous people being flooded for the third time in recent years.
