Start preparing before a flood happens
Make a list of what needs to be moved to safety during a flood
Agree where to go in the event of a flood and how to contact family members
If you can, keep any valuable documents and mementos upstairs
Complete the flood plan and keep it in a safe place
Prepare a flood kit with items such as:
- A torch
- Wind up radio
- Clean/bottled water and non-perishable foods
- Any baby care/food products
- First aid kit with any prescription medication
- Any important documents (kept in a water proof bag)
- Copy of Flood Plan
- Wellington boots
- Warm waterproof clothing
- Blankets
- Wash kit and essential toiletries (including toilet paper and wet wipes)
- Emergency cash
- Rubber gloves
- Spare batteries
